Our History

We have spent an enormous amount of time the past 30 years hunting upland birds with a variety of gundogs, experiencing excellent to below average performance in gundogs. We have done extensive traveling through many states spending countless hours with breeders and trainers searching and prospecting for pointing Labrador retrievers. We evaluate them to see if they truly have a natural point and if they pass that trait on to their offspring. We look for style and desire when it comes to hunting ability and retrieving. We have hunted behind pointing labs owned by professional trainers in Colorado, Kansas and South Dakota. We belong to a retriever club which also helps with our evaluation of style and desire in retrievers. In addition to attending hunt tests, field trials and APLA events. We have trained with multiple gundog trainers and had the opportunity to see hundreds of retrievers perform. This has enabled Iowa Pointing Labradors to establish relationships with some of the good bad and ugley professional retriever trainers and breeders in the country.

In 2010 we hired 4 different professional trainers throughout the country for our dogs. Our experience in 2010 alone included entering dogs in the MH SH JH AKC hunt test events, AKC field trials, APLA hunt test events and HRC hunt test events. This wealth of knowledge and experience has created an unbiased opinion on bloodlines pertaining to performance, companionship and conformation for labrador retrievers.
